Yarnsmiths Glow in the Dark yarn works by absorbing UV light energy (from either natural sunlight or artificial light) and slowly releasing it in the form of visible light. This is known as photoluminescence, and generally the longer you expose the yarn to light, the longer it will glow for. This technology has long been used in childrens toys, babies dummies, and even glow-in-the-dark paints - but is now available in a yarn!
Ideal for creating amigurumi, glow in the dark yarn gives animals a truly magical touch, and being made from 100% polyester, it is strong and hardwearing. Available in 50g balls at a very competitive price, you can buy as much or as little as you like!
Some glow-in-the-dark yarns are available in a range of colours, but in our experience the natural white shade glows by far the strongest. As soon as you start over-dyeing the yarn with another colour, you vastly reduce the photoluminescence (glow) of the yarn. It is also worth noting that modern LED lights emit less UV than traditional incandescent or fluorescent lights, so any photoluminescent products (including Yarnsmiths Glow in the Dark yarn will take longer to charge up under LED lights than they will under other types of light - and natural daylight is best! Fully charged, your finished projects should glow for a good few hours!
